It truly feels like a comprehensive toolkit designed to equip you for the ISSMP exam. The detailed explanations in the study guide sections, particularly, were a lifesaver; they helped break down complex topics into digestible chunks, making the initially daunting concepts feel much more approachable. I found that the combination of thorough explanations and challenging practice questions fostered a steady build-up of knowledge and confidence – a gradual ascent, rather than a steep climb. This structured approach was incredibly effective for me.
However, I must also address a significant drawback, one that unfortunately impacted my overall enjoyment and reading experience. The book suffers from a serious printing or typesetting issue. For a substantial portion of the text – the first 215 pages, in fact – a considerable number of pages are marred by intrusive snippets of what appears to be computer code. This isn't some intentional formatting choice; it's clearly an error, a glitch in the production process. In some instances, these code fragments bleed across multiple pages, sometimes four or five, severely disrupting the flow and readability. This is frustrating, regardless of your technical background. Even if you’re comfortable with code, its unexpected and random appearance is distracting and disruptive to the learning process. It's the kind of glaring printing error that should have been caught during quality control. It's honestly baffling how this slipped through.
This production flaw significantly detracts from the otherwise valuable content. It makes what could have been a smoothly paced, engaging learning experience rather jarring. I found myself constantly having to mentally filter out these intrusive code snippets, which impacted my concentration and overall ability to efficiently absorb the material. I ended up having to power through it quickly, prioritizing skimming and focusing on the crucial information amidst the chaos. The fear that the entire book would be similarly riddled with these errors made me want to race through it and return it before the return window closed.
